A SYSPRO alternative for shops deciding what to do about the licensing change

SYSPRO is ending its license-fee model and moving every customer to named-user subscriptions. For US customers, current licenses run until December 31, 2026. After that, keeping SYSPRO means signing a new subscription agreement.

That's a decision nobody asked for, and it lands at year end. If you're going to sign something anyway, it's a fair moment to check whether SYSPRO is still the right system for your shop. This page is our attempt to help you work that out, including when the answer is to stay.

What SYSPRO is changing

From SYSPRO's formal notice to customers, published July 15, 2026:

  • The Initial License Fee and Annual License Fee model is ending for all customers.
  • US licenses run until December 31, 2026. From January 1, 2027, the annual license model is no longer available. Outside the US, the date was October 31, 2026.
  • Continued use needs a new subscription agreement. SYSPRO says the subscription includes the full module set, not only the modules you license today.
  • The license fee you paid originally does not carry forward as a right to keep using the software after your expiry date.
  • You can export your data when your license ends. SYSPRO asks customers to request this through their account manager before the expiry date.

Your three real options

1. Stay on SYSPRO under the new subscription. If SYSPRO fits your shop and your team knows it well, this is the least disruptive choice. Ask your account manager for the subscription terms, including the length of the commitment, before December.

2. Subscribe for now, then move to Tangle in stages. A few weeks isn't long to move an ERP, and we'd rather you didn't rush it. With Off Ramp, your current system keeps running while its data syncs into Tangle, and you move one area at a time. If the subscription term allows it, this gives you the most room.

3. Move to Tangle before your license ends. Possible for some shops, mostly smaller ones with simpler routings. If you go this way, request your data export from SYSPRO early, before the expiry date.

We'll tell you honestly which of these fits when we talk. Sometimes it's the first one.

Why shops look at Tangle

You change it yourself. Milo, Tangle's built-in AI engineer, builds and changes workflows, forms, reports and automations from a plain-English request. You preview every change before it goes live. No configuration quote and no change order for everyday changes.

It's sized for job shops and custom manufacturers. Tangle is built for shops of roughly 10 to 200 people doing make-to-order work: quotes, routings, jobs, scheduling by machine and department, inventory and purchasing.

Your books go to QuickBooks, and we set that up with you. SYSPRO includes a general ledger; Tangle doesn't. Tangle runs the shop and sends invoices, purchase orders and payments to QuickBooks Online, which keeps the ledger. As part of the move we map your SYSPRO chart of accounts into QuickBooks with your bookkeeper, before anything posts. How Tangle works with QuickBooks

No servers to run. Tangle is cloud software, so there's nothing to host or upgrade.

How a staged move works

An illustrative example, not a project plan or a feature list.

Meridian Welding runs an older ERP and decides to move in stages with Off Ramp.

  1. Off Ramp maps Meridian's existing data and starts syncing it into Tangle. The old system keeps running.
  2. Quoting and job tracking go live in Tangle first, because that's where the team feels the most pain.
  3. Inventory and purchasing follow a few weeks later, on the shop's own timeline.
  4. The old system stays available until nobody needs it.

We've done this move before

In October 2026 a manufacturer moved off SYSPRO onto Tangle this way. For the weeks of the build, Tangle pulled parts, costs, lead times and stock from SYSPRO on a schedule while the team kept working in SYSPRO. Their order, invoice and payment history came across too. They then picked a clean cutover point: finish the day in SYSPRO, start the next morning in Tangle.

It wasn't effortless. Stock counts needed checking warehouse by warehouse after cutover, and our team worked through them with the customer line by line. That's normal for an ERP move, and it's why we'd rather plan it with you than promise a weekend switch.

What it costs, and what is included

Tangle's prices are published on our website by user type, so you can estimate the cost before you talk to anyone. The core migration and setup work needed to get live is normally included in that price, with no separate services bill for the basics.

SYSPRO alternative FAQs

Do I have to decide before December 31?

If you want to keep using SYSPRO into 2027 without a gap, you'll need to sign SYSPRO's subscription by then. Moving to Tangle doesn't have to finish by that date, especially if you take option 2.

Will I lose my SYSPRO history?

SYSPRO says you can export your data when your license ends, if you ask before the expiry date. When you move to Tangle, your customers, vendors, parts and stock come across, along with your order, invoice and payment history. Your SYSPRO general ledger history can be kept in Tangle as a read-only archive you can search and export.

Can I run SYSPRO and Tangle side by side?

Yes, while you have an active SYSPRO license or subscription. During the build, Tangle syncs from SYSPRO on a schedule, so your team keeps working in SYSPRO until you choose the cutover day.

Is Tangle right for a large, multi-site manufacturer?

Probably not. Tangle is built for job shops and custom manufacturers of roughly 10 to 200 people. If you run several plants with a large IT team, SYSPRO's subscription may well be the better fit.

How long does a move take?

It depends on the shop and how many areas you move at once. We'll give you a realistic view on the first call rather than a number here.
